Self-Storage Tips

Make sure to use a high quality disc lock to secure your unit. Regular padlocks can be easily cut with a bolt cutters.
Do not store any hazardous materials such as gasoline, oil, propane, paint thinner, fireworks, cleaning products or the like.
Do not store perishables.
To avoid condensation and moisture wicking, place plastic between the concrete floor and your items being stored or use pallets. Do not put wood or cardboard directly on concrete. Also allowing a space between stored items and the walls improves ventilation.
Use plastic totes with covers whenever possible.
Heavy items should go on the bottom. Light and fragile items toward the top.
To prevent mold prop open freezer and refrigerator doors. For maximum safety freezer/refrigerator doors should be removed.
Cover mattresses and furniture with fabric sheets or plastic sheeting to prevent dust buildup.
Leave a central aisle to walk through to the back of your unit.
Label boxes/totes with contents. Mark fragile as needed.
All breakable items (e.g. dishes) should be carefully wrapped individually and then secured in sturdy box or tote.
